The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft carries out applied research that drives economic developments and serves the wider benefit of society, working for and with an international network of partners and customers. The Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology ICT is one of the 60 institutes that currently make up the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. Beside contractual research for industry, the Fraunhofer ICT also works with commercial enterprises in research projects co-funded by the German government and the European Union.

Over a total area of 200.000 m2 we have 12.000 m2 of pilot plants, test stands and technical workshops, and a further 13.000 m2 of laboratories, infrastructure and office space. Approximately 550 people are currently employed at the Fraunhofer ICT. The overall budget in 2015 was around 38,3 million €.

The core competences are:

  • Energetic materials
  • Energetic systems
  • Applied Electrochemistry
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Polymer Engineering

Activities in the field of chemical nanotechnology (synthesis, analysis and application) are located in the product area Energetic Systems. Noteworthy is the nano-silver technology as well as technologies for the production of functional surfaces, e.g. thermochromic systems or transparent, electrically conductive polymer films for solar applications.
