On June 26, 2024, the general meeting of Nanonetz Bayern e.V. took place at Infosim in Würzburg. The well-attended event offered members the opportunity to learn about the association’s current developments and plans.
Professor Dr Alfred Forchel, Chairman of the Board, welcomed the attendees, followed by Dr Peter Grambow, who presented the work of the Cluster Nanotechnology and Nanonetz Bayern. He emphasized the importance of working with young talent, particularly the annual school competition, which has taken place every year since 2007.
The 2023 school competition, which focussed on atomic force microscopy, enjoyed a high level of participation. The best projects were awarded prizes, and the current 2024 competition has already received its first submissions.
The meeting covered highlights from the past and current year, such as the Network Day 2024 for all networks of the Cluster Nanotechnology, which took place directly after the general meeting, the NanoCarbon Annual Conference, and the German Pavilion at nano tech in Tokyo. Joint stands at nano tech in Tokyo and the European Coatings Show 2025 in Nuremberg are planned again for 2025.
Mr Grambow explained in detail the sustainable work of the individual cluster networks and presented the Nanotechnology NOW project, which provides easy-to-understand information on nanotechnology via an online platform in four languages (https://www.nanoproject.eu/).
Guest speaker Professor Dr Corinna Kaulen from OTH Regensburg reported on current research into nanomaterials. This was followed by an intensive discussion about the shortage of skilled workers, particularly in the STEM fields. Mr Forchel was pleased about the active participation of the association members and wished the participants a great time and good discussions at the Network Day of all networks.
