Nanocarbon community back in Würzburg

NanoCarbon Annual Conference 2023 shows promising new results for the use of nanocarbons

The NanoCarbon Annual Conference 2023 took place this year from March 14 to March 15 and ended with promising results for new applications of nanocarbons, especially in the field of energy storage and conversion. Experts from all over the world met in the beautiful town of Würzburg to share their latest research and development results and discuss promising applications for nanocarbons.

Since 2015, Nanoinitiative Bayern GmbH / Cluster Nanotechnology has organised the NanoCarbon Annual Conference in Würzburg. This year, the event again provided an important international platform for leading experts from academia and industry from Japan, France, the UK, Azerbaijan, Germany, Finland, Belgium, Switzerland and the USA to present the progress and challenges in the field of nanocarbon materials. Participants presented a very wide range of topics, from basic research to the application of nanocarbons in new products and markets.

In total, more than 20 oral presentations were given and 10 posters were presented. In a dedicated session for short pitches, researchers had the opportunity to present their core idea in just 5 minutes and discuss it with the expert audience. Industry representatives could also find new collaborations or project partners this way. Some of the notable findings presented included the use of carbon nanotubes in batteries and other energy storage devices, a technology essential to the success of the energy transition. In addition, 10 exhibitors from industry and research presented their products and results and made numerous new contacts.

Discussions during the conference focused mainly on the important future application areas for nanocarbons and the challenges associated with them. Many of the participants emphasized the importance of a strong cooperation within the Network NanoCarbon and the associated good collaboration between science and industry to accelerate progress in the field of nanocarbons and minimize potential risks. Since its foundation, the Network NanoCarbon has developed into a remarkable international cooperation of more than 20 companies and institutes.

Cluster manager Dr.-Ing. Peter Grambow was very pleased with the outcome of the conference: "We are excited about the many advances presented at the conference and we are confident that these developments will help us in the future to meet the challenges of our time. We thank all participants and hope that the results of the NanoCarbon Annual Conference will further advance applications in the field of nanocarbons."

The NanoCarbon Annual Conference was completed by the traditional poster exhibition, where researchers put their results up for discussion. This year, the poster award went to the Leibniz IFW Dresden e.V. (first place) and Leibniz-Institut für Polymerforschung Dresden e. V. (second place). Congratulations!

The next NanoCarbon Annual Conference will be held on March 19-20, 2024. Join us in Würzburg and discuss with the experts of the nanocarbon community.

The Network NanoCarbon which is managed by the Cluster Nanotechnology is an open network for the development of marketable nanocarbon products. The network partners are experts in the field of production, processing, application and disposal of these materials, i.e. for the entire life cycle of these products. In the focus of the network activities are small and medium-sized enterprises aiming to accelerate the technology transfer.
