Fraunhofer Institute for Microengineering and Microsystems (IMM)

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is the leading organization for applied research in Europe. Its research activities are conducted by 74 institutes and research units at locations throughout Germany. As Fraunhofer IMM, we work in the fields of Energy, Chemistry and Diagnostics. The emphasis is on hydrogen-based energy supply, sustainable chemistry and process analysis as well as personalized diagnostics and liquid biopsy. We provide solutions for hydrogen supply relying on a compact and dynamic approach that is well suited for mobile applications. Doing so we use catalytic processes and, increasingly, renewable fuels. We use structured reactors and continuous processing to precisely control and intensify chemical processes. We create efficient solutions for the extraction and enrichment of relevant biomarkers for automated and personalized precision diagnostics in the laboratory and also on site. With our development work we achieve an essential contribution to the societal challenges “secure, clean and efficient energy”, “climate action, environment and resource efficiency” as well as “health”.
