LUM GmbH was founded in 1994 by CEO Prof. Dr. Dr. Dietmar Lerche as an innovative development, production and service company. The headquarters are located in Berlin-Adlershof.

The company has a branch in France and three subsidiaries, LUM Corporation, USA, LUM (Jiangsu) Instruments Co. Ltd, China, and LUM Japan Co., Ltd. in Tokyo, Japan.

LUM GmbH has a highly qualified, interdisciplinary team of scientists, specialist personnel and engineers and has decades of scientific and metrological expertise in:

  • Particle characterisation
  • Analysis of suspensions and emulsions including stability assessment
  • Determination of joint and layer strengths
  • Quality control and process optimisation.

This knowledge and its continuous expansion form the basis for customer-oriented problem solutions, product developments and services for our national and international customers, who are active in large industrial, food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical groups and increasingly also in the academic sector.

The innovative analytical instruments "made by LUM" have become standard equipment in many R&D and QC departments. LUM instruments enable our customers, in line with our slogan The Next STEP® in Dispersion Analysis and Materials Testing, to develop new and improved products and bring them to market successfully.

LUM supports the new Nano4eMob network as a partner and, with its analytical measuring instruments, provides crucial assistance in the development of nanomaterials, the improvement of processes and products in connection with electromobility.

The areas of application of the various LUM measuring instruments (LUMiFuge, LUMiSizer, LUMiReader PSA, LUMiFrac) include analytical applications in dispersion and coating processes in the manufacture of the membrane electrode unit, the heart of fuel cells. From particle and dispersion analysis to coating characterisation.

In the field of lightweight construction, the LUMiFrac is used in adhesive and mechanical composite material testing.
