Interdisciplinarity and dialogue as key success factors

The last conference of the Leibniz Research Alliance “Advanced Material Safety” in Dresden once again set standards for interdisciplinary exchange on safe and sustainable materials and offered an excellent platform for networking and discussion. The event covered a broad range of topics and enabled all participants to gain valuable insights beyond the boundaries of their own disciplines. The event was organized by a NanoCarbon network partner, the Leibniz Institute IPF.

With the organization and moderation of the session "Sustainability through machine learning and artificial intelligence," the Cluster Nanotechnology and the North European Initiative Nanotechnology e.V. made a significant contribution to the interdisciplinary profile of the conference. The session fostered an open and constructive dialogue and introduced numerous new perspectives. The contributions from industry, research, and government agencies, as well as the subsequent panel discussion, in which participants were able to actively contribute, were particularly impressive.

Interdisciplinarity and Dialogue as Success Factors

The entire event was characterized by a high degree of interdisciplinarity – representatives from various disciplines, including materials science, circular economy, toxicity, machine learning, industry, and government agencies, jointly discussed key topics related to the development of sustainable new materials. This resulted in many new ideas and valuable impetus for future research and industrial implementation.

Conclusion: Sustainable Innovation Through Exchange

Dialogue remains one of the most important instruments for shaping innovations in the field of nanotechnology and advanced materials in a sustainable and safe manner – not only between research, industry, and government agencies, but also, and perhaps even more importantly, between the various disciplines within science.
